Are McIntosh Apples Red Inside?

Despite their red skin, ordinary McIntosh Red apples usually have pale, creamy-white flesh rather than bright red flesh.

Why does the name include Red?

The name refers to the skin colour, not a red-fleshed cultivar. Some apples naturally have pink or red flesh, but those are different varieties.

What if the inside looks pink?

A faint tint near the skin can occur in some apples, but unusual discolouration, mould or an off smell should be treated cautiously. Do not eat fruit that appears spoiled.
